Creating the Best Auto Fire Safety Plan

When most of us think of fires, we think of buildings.  Whether it be a home, office, restaurant or anything in between.  But many are shocked to find out that auto’s can also become victims of fire.  That is why having an auto fire safety plan is absolutely essential to anyone who drives.

Unfortunately, cars are often the victims of arson.  There are a variety of reasons for this.  First of all, they are an easy target for arsonists.  They are often left alone throughout the night and no one is around to monitor them.  Arsonists don’t want to get caught, so they will often start by lighting a car on fire.  It is much easier for them to escape and avoid getting caught than if they were to light a building on fire.  There are a variety of reasons that someone may wish to light a car on fire.  Some of the more common reasons are revenge, insurance money or someone who simply lights fires for the sake of the thrill that they get from it.  Regardless of the reasons, it is important for everyone to have an auto fire safety plan, in the event that it happens to you.

Auto’s are common targets for arson because it doesn’t take much to light them on fire.  They are already equipped with gasoline and if the arsonist knows what they are doing, they can quickly ignite the entire car within only seconds.  Arsonists tend to target cars because they enjoy the thrill of watching it explode.  Although not all cars will explode, some certainly will.  That is why if you discover a car on fire, it is important to not take the situation into your own hands.  Immediately call the fire department because the average person is not trained to deal with this type of situation.  What may seem like a small fire could instantly turn into a life altering explosion, so ensure that a professional is on the scene.

If it is in fact your own car that is on fire, it may be hard, but step back and don’t try to put it out yourself.  By just trying to save your car, you could end up costing yourself your own life.  No car is worth that.  Auto fire safety should only be attempted by qualified professionals.  However, you can try to ensure that your car never becomes a victim of fire.  A good idea is to always keep your car in a locked garage.  Arsonists tend to target cars that are left alone outside, especially in areas that do not have much traffic.  If you car cannot be seen from the street, you greatly increase your chance of avoiding a fire.

Auto fire safety is an extensive topic.  Cars are filled with explosive materials and they can easily explode under the correct conditions.  So never take a car fire into your own hands.  Immediately call the fire department and make sure to stay far away from the car and ensure that no one else goes near the car.
