Car Fire Safety Training: Do Regular Check Up

Most people thought that car fires are brought about by vehicular accidents alone and so as long as they are not involved in them, they have the misconception that there is no chance that the car will burn.  That is so untrue.  The basic elements of fire are present in the car and therefore, the possibility may occur anytime.  The presence of flammable materials makes it easy for a fire to spread throughout the car.  This is the reason why people should undergo fire safety training or just be aware of fire safety regulations to reduce the risk of it happening.

The most common causes would be faulty electrical wiring, fuel leaks, damaged car batteries, and overheating exhaust systems.  All of them can be avoided by regular car maintenance and proper fire preventive measures.  Although, there are cases where the main cause is the manufacturer’s design flaws and that is the reason for a car model being recalled by car companies.  One of the basic things you will learn in fire safety training on automobiles is that preventive measures are better than cure and so doing regular check up on your car will do wonders for your safety.  Get a professional mechanic to look at your engine condition, the status of your belts, oil, coolants and the hoses.

It will not only prevent fires from occurring but it will also make sure that you are using an efficient and trouble-free car.  You also need to follow fire safety regulations to avoid any mishaps such as turning off the car engine just before refueling, do not smoke when refueling, never overfill your fuel tanks, and make the necessary static removal steps before attempting to touch the nozzle.  However, accidents do happen and whatever the reason may be, it is important that a car owner should be prepared for any eventuality.  Make sure that you have the necessary fire fighting equipment and emergency items that you can use until professional help arrives.

Keep fire extinguisher, fire blanket, first aid kit and flashlights.  It is important that you use the right type of fire extinguisher for vehicles and it is recommended that you carry an ABC-type.  It can handle wood, paper, cloth, live electrical gadgets flammable liquids, and gasses.  Having these items on your car could save your car and the lives of the people riding the car. However, it is also important that you follow some fire safety training guidelines on how to put it inside your car.  You have to make sure that it is visible and very accessible. Do not place it where it would be exposed to extreme heat or high temperature.  Mount it properly so that it will not easily be dislodged from its position.

The possibility of fire occurring on your car will lessen if you are going to follow the necessary fire preventive measures mentioned above.  Remember that just a worn electrical wiring or a cracked hose can lead to something as dangerous as fire.
